Autodesk Fusion 360 (installing and extracting a BOM)

Integrating Autodesk® Fusion 360™ with OpenBOM

There are two steps you’ll need to go through to integrate openBoM with Fusion 360:

  1. Extracting a Fusion 360 BOM directly from the OpenBOM Dashboard; and
  2. Extracting a BOM directly from within Fusion 360 (plugin installation for Windows/Mac OS).

Note(1): Make sure Fusion 360 is installed on your PC or MAC before you try connecting it to OpenBOM. Note (2): OpenBOM is an official Forge API Platform Autodesk Partner.

Extracting a Fusion 360 BOM directly from the OpenBOM Dashboard

(1) In the OpenBOM Dashboard, click the “Import” toolbar and choose “Import from Fusion 360″ from the drop-down menu:

(2) If prompted, grant OpenBOM permission to access Autodesk 360.  Note: You need to have an Autodesk Fusion 360 account.  If you do not have an Autodesk 360 account, go here to acquire one.
If you are navigated to the Autodesk 360 page, sign in using your Autodesk 360 account credentials.

Note: You can connect to your Autodesk Fusion 360 account by clicking “Integrations” in the OpenBOM Dashboard and then clicking “connect to Autodesk Fusion 360 account“:

You may be asked to authorize OpenBOM permission to access Autodesk 360 if you haven’t done so already:

(3) Once connected to Autodesk 360, you will be able to choose the Fusion 360 model you wish to create a BOM from:

Extracting a BOM directly from within Fusion 360 (plugin installation for Windows/Mac OS)

(1) Click the “Integrations” button in the OpenBOM Dashboard and connect to your Autodesk Fusion 360 account as covered, above. Following this step, download and install the Autodesk Fusion 360 plugin.

To install the plugin, unzip the downloaded .zip file and locate the “Readme.txt” file. Follow the directions therein.  Here’s a screenshot of the Readme.txt file:

(2) Go to your Fusion 360 desktop app.  Once the plugin is installed to Fusion 360, you’ll be able to see the OpenBOM button(s) and extract BOMs from your models directly within Fusion 360.

Mac OS users will see this:

BOMs extracted from Fusion 360 will include Thumbnails for external components.  We’re working on providing Thumbnails for internal Fusion 360 components.

Users on Windows will see the plugin thus:
